Monticello is the farthest town we deliver to and it is still inside the radius — about twenty-eight miles southwest on Highway 38, and the only town we serve in Jones County. The rate does not change for the distance. $250 to pick the trailer up yourself, $350 for us to deliver it and come back for it.
Graduation is the anchor here. Monticello has its own district and its own calendar, and the Panthers are not on the same schedule as the Maquoketa Valley and Ed-Co schools we serve up north. That is worth knowing if you have been told everything is booked — a weekend that is long gone in Delhi may be wide open in Monticello.
The rest is family gatherings, and Monticello has the room for them. It is a town of about 4,040 with an event barn on the edge of it, Chisel Point at the Bean Farm, which seats up to two hundred. In town there is the Berndes Center, a hundred-by-hundred-foot gym with a full kitchen and a stage that the city rents by the half day or the full day. If you have booked either one and you are standing in an empty room doing math on chairs, that is the call we want.
One trailer covers a lot of floor: 100 folding chairs, 20 six-foot tables, and chair dollies so you can roll a stack across a gym instead of carrying it. For most gatherings that is more than enough. For a bigger crowd, call us and we will talk through what you actually need before you book anything.
Fair week is the other thing. The Great Jones County Fair runs in late July and pulls something like 88,000 people through town across the week — grandstand shows, 4-H, the carnival, all of it. We have not done fair-week parties yet and we would like to. If you are hosting people while the fair is on, get on the calendar early, because that is the one week when nobody in Jones County has a spare chair.
Twenty-eight miles is a real drive, so book Monticello dates as far ahead as you can. We would rather block the day for you than turn you down in May.
